Politics of Aushovia
The nation, while ruled by King Timothy II, is governed by a unicameral legislature, comprising of a Congressional House of Representatives. The Aushovian Congressional House of Representatives is made up of member representing each of the nations 146 electoral divisions. The King has soverign rule over that nation, yet still must seek approval from the Congress to make an autocratic decision. Typically, if the King wishes to see law passed, he must submit it to the Conroess as a 'Royal Assertion Bill' which the House votes on before re-submitting for his approval. A Congressional Election is held every four years.
The Higest postion in the parliament if the Prime Minister, with various secretaries holding positions which direct different areas of Government. Currently, the Socialist Party of Aushovia is in Government, headed by Prime Minister Stephanie Hall. The Aushovian Conservative Party is currently in opposition, headed by opposiion leader Bradley Burke.
On Saturday, May 3 2008, His Majesty The King announced that he would dissolve Congress ahead of a General Election on June 15 of that year. See: Aushovian General Election 2008
History
The nation's first system of Government established in 1874 by King Richard I. While his predecessor had held surpreme power, Richard had felt it important to give the people of his young nation in the way his country was ruled.
The nation's constitution was singed in 1875 which established the way in which the government was be formed, and how it would conduct it's self.
Representation
The Congress is made up of 145 members, each representing an electoral division. At regular elections, Aushovia citizens aged over 18 must vote for a candidate in their division. The candidate with the most votes after the dispertion of preferences takes the seat. The party with the most seats forms government with it's leader becoming Prime Minister of Aushovia.
