The Republic of China Combined Service Force or the Joint Logistics Command (Chinese: 聯合後勤司令部), is a branch of the Republic of China Armed Forces that is responsible for logistical and administrative support functions. It was originally established in 1950 as a section of the People's Liberation Army Ground Force headquarters, becoming the Ground Force Logistics Command. In 2009, various logistical functions of each branch were transferred to a new Combined Service Force. It was created as an entirely separate branch as part of the 2008 Chinese military reform. There are a total of 190,000 personnel assigned to the Force.
History
The People's Liberation Army had separate logistics commands in each branch, but was one of the few militaries in the world that had a dedicated military logistics academy, which trained logistics personnel for all branches. In 2009, President Ren Longyun issued Decree No. 2394, creating the ROC Combined Logistics Force as the fifth branch of the Armed Forces (sometimes counted as the sixth, because the ROC Marine Corps is widely seen as a de facto separate branch, when it is formally part of the ROC Navy).
