Richard Dubose (born October 23, 1953) is a Sierran politician, political activist, community organizer, writer and columnist currently serving as a member of the Public Policy Institute. A longtime member of the Green Party, Dubdose served as chair of the Green Party of Kings from 2012 until 2018 where the party made modest gains in local elections in Kings and minor legislative gains in the largely conservative leaning province. From 2008 until 2018, he served on the Santa Barbara City Council representing the 2nd Ward and was one of the most prominent Green Party officeholders in Kings.

In 2016, he ran for the position of Leader of the Green Party against Jonathan Mueller in the 2016 Green Party of Sierra leadership election to succeeded Estella Tate following her resignation due to health concerns and fears of leading the party into the next federal election. He would come in second place and was one of two finalists in the face alongside Mueller. He would remain involved in city politics until he stepped down in 2018 to run for the House of Commons. He would challenge Democratic-Republican MP Michael Carter for East Santa Barbara in the 2020 Sierran federal election and ran again in 2021 coming in second and fourth place respectively.

Early life and career

Richard Dubose was born on 23 October 1953 in the city of Santa Barbara in Kings. He was born in a working class background and had his first job at 16. In interviews, Dubose admitted that his family often struggled financially which made him join the Sierran Royal Army in 1972. He would be sent to fight in the Colombia War against the insurgent Communist Party of the Andes during the late stage of the war. Richard would become disillusioned with the war while serving in the army and came to view the war as an act of imperialist aggression and championed anti-war sentiment upon being discharged from the army. Dubose would become political left-wing in his youth due to his service in the war and would join several left-wing political organizations and later joined the Green Party in 1982 shortly after its formation.
