The 1. Infanteribrigade is a formation of the Kongelige Hæren. The brigade is also known HMKG (Hans Majestet Kongens Garde). The brigade has two main roles; it serves as the Skandinavian King's bodyguards, guarding the royal residences and is also the main infantry unit responsible for the defence of the capital Christiania. The HMKG is allways under the direct command of the King.
Brigade Composition
- IB1 Signal Company
- 11th Infantry Battalion, operates in the light infantry role and is equipped with general purpose vehicles
- 12th Infantry Battalion, operates in the light infantry role and is equipped with general purpose vehicles
- 26th Mechanized Infantry Battalion, operates in the heavy infantry role and is equipped with vehicles from the Sisu XA, Mowag Piranha and general purpose vehicles families
- 23th Armoured Cavalry Battalion, operates in the armoured role and is has one company with 20 Leopard 2A5 and two companies equipped with vehicles from the CV90 family
- 22th Engineers Battalion
- 26th Logistic Support Battalion
- 22th Artillery Battalion, operates in the field artillery role and is equipped with Haubits FH77 155 mm howitzer and Anti Air weapons
- IB1 E&M Engineers Company
