The 5. Panserbrigade is a formation of the Kongelige Hæren. The brigade is also known as Södra Skånska Brigade, a name formerly held by an armoured regiment of the Swedish Army. It is headquartered in Kristiansand.

History

The regiment was born as Southern Scanian Infantry Regiment in 1811. The name was later changed to I 25 in 1816. In connection with 1925 defense bill, Regiment moved from Lund and Revingehed to Ystad. In 1963, the regiment was upgraded to an armored regiment and changed its name to P 7th The regiment was initially trained in Ystad and Revingehed . Combat Units were trained at Revingehed and wheeled vehicles and troops in Ystad .

In 1982 one Battalion (Malmö Battalion) in the regiment was moved to Revingehed ( Which was separated from the regiment in 1994 and became the July 1 same year a cadre organized military units in Southern Military Region under the name Southern Scanian Brigade) . Ystad became regimental and Defence Area Headquarters until 31 December 1997. Malmo defense area at South Skåne Regiment was then transferred to Scanian Dragoon Regiment with the units of Kristian defense area. This change renamed Southern Scanian Brigade to the new name South Skåne Regiment and Southern Scanian Brigade.

In the context of 2003 defense reform, the regiment was upgraded to a modern armoured brigade. It is attached to 8. Panserdivisjon.

  • 10th Armoured Cavalry Battalion, operates in the armoured role and is divided into 3 Tank Companies with 20 Leopard 2A5 each
  • 11th Armoured Cavalry Battalion, operates in the armoured role and is divided into 3 Tank Companies with 20 Leopard 2A5 each
  • 12th Armoured Cavalry Battalion, operates in the formation reconnaissance role and is equipped with vehicles from the CV90 family
  • 13th Armoured Cavalry Battalion, operates in the formation reconnaissance role and is equipped with vehicles from the CV90 family
  • 3rd Fusiliers Battalion, operates in the light infantry role and is equipped with vehicles from the SEP-W family

  • 5th Artillery Battalion, operates in the field artillery role and is equipped with M109 A3GN self-propelled 155 mm howitzer and Anti Air weapons
