The Sartretarium Empire is a stellar power controlling the Tanitarium System and one of the many civilizations absorbed into the Kingdom of Kerolon during the latter's era of interstellar expansionism, during which Sartretarium existed as an autonomous dominion of the Kerolonian Kingdom. Its capital is the city of Sartres, located on the eponymous Sartretarium homeworld of Sartretarium; its dominant species is Sartretarian Lizards, a sentient race native to Sartretarium.
The Sartretarium Empire has a rather tumultuous history. The nation initially formed in a somewhat similar fashion to the Kingdom of Kerolon, albeit at a much large scale and in a much more violent fashion. The Sartretarium Empire was established by revolutionaries desiring a united Sartretarium amidst a nearly century-long world war known simply as the Disastrous War. The newly-formed constitutional monarchy initially restored some form of order to Sartretarium, but internal corruption caused it to transition into an aggressive absolute monarchy that attempted to invade small remaining nations as well as fledgling space colonies. This absolute monarchy lasted for a little over a century before being ousted by pro-democracy rebels, who proceeded to reform Sartretarium into a parliamentary republic. Sartretarium remained a stable democracy until the early 18th Century, when radical fascist forces took hold of the government and transformed it into the dictatorial Vastian Imperium, which carried out an attempted genocide against individuals who did not practice the dominant religion of Tiosism. In 1765, another rebellion ousted the Vastians from power and restored egalitarian and democratic policies to Sartretarium; however, religious conflict continued to pose a major political issue in the new constitutional empire.
In the early 19th Century, the Sartretarium Empire was first contacted by the Kingdom of Kerolon, part of another alien civilization hailing from the nearby Ingffhaestian System.
