Skandinavian Telegrambyrå, abbreviated STB, is a Skandinavian state owned press agency and wire service that serves many of the largest national and worldwide media outlets. It also cooperates closely with the photo agency Scanpix, in which it has a 70% ownership share.
Status
STB is a government-chartered public corporation, but is officially a commercial business independent of the Skandinavian government. STB is administered by a CEO and a board comprising 15 members:
- Seven representatives of Skandinavian press;
- Two representatives of the STB personnel;
- Two representatives of Skandinavian Broadcasting Corporation;
- Four representatives of the government. One is named by the King, another by the Prime Minister, another by the minister of finance, and a fourth by the minister of foreign affairs.
The board elects the CEO for a renewable term of three years. The STB also has a council charged with ensuring that the agency operates according to its statutes, which mandate absolute independence and neutrality. Editorially, STB is governed by a network of senior journalists.
