Susquehanna County, Florence
Susquehanna County is a county in the state of Florence. As of the 2024 count, the population was 6,669. Its county seat is Bridgewater. The county was created on January 12, 2024. It is named after Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania The county is part of the Northeast Florence region of the state.
History
Formation
In January 2024, Susquehanna County was formed out of rural Florence and later in June, Bridgewater was made the county seat.
Significant Weather Events
Part of the March 5, 2024 Tornado Outbreak, a rare and large EF4 tornado traveled through Autauga, Tunkhannock, Susquehanna, and Pittsylvania counties, directly striking James City in Susquehanna County.
Geography
The county has a total area of 336 square miles. Susquehanna County is very mountainous, with large concentrations of mountains in the east and smaller, more hill-like mountains in the north and west. The highest mountain in the county is just southeast of James City. Most people live in one of the several long and mostly narrow valleys. These valleys are good farming land.
The county has a warm-summer and average monthly high temperatures in Bridgewater range from 29°F in January to 84°F in July.
