Phonology

Sutaqlian has a basic five vowel inventory: /a/, /e/, /i/, /o/, /u/. The only legal diphthongs are /ay/ and /oy/, with Anqirhan /aw/ having shifted to /o/. The vowels /e/ and /o/ predominantly arose from the Anqirhan rimes /iʁ/ and /uʁ/ respectively, and are still written as such in the Sutaqlian syllabary.
