The Presidio, The Military College of San Francisco, commonly shortened to simply The Presidio, is a senior military college in San Francisco City, San Francisco, Sierra. It was originally established as a Spanish presidio in 1776. By 1858, it was made into an active military installation of the Kingdom of Sierra, and also housed the original residence of the Sierran royal family. After the Sierran Civil War, a military college was established on the premises in 1880. It is a four-year institution intended for cadets seeking bachelor's degrees and offers 27 majors and 40 minors. It also supports non-military programs with 10 undergraduate degrees, 24 graduate degrees, five online graduate degrees, three online undergraduate degrees, and five postgraduate certificate programs.
The entire campus is located on the Presidio of San Francisco, an area situated on the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula, which includes Fort Point (an SRA installation) and the historical Richmond Palace. The campus is built in a mix of Mission Revival and Beaux-Arts architecture and is considered a national landmark, making it a popular tourist destination in San Francisco City. It features the oldest museum in the Sierran Crown Armed Forces and has a public visitor center open year-round.
The Presidio is one of the most selective education institutions in the Kingdom. Cadets must meet certain criteria including physical fitness, strong academic records, and a nomination by an MP, a senator, or a noble of qualifying rank. The San Francisco Corps of Cadets is the military component of The Presidio and numbers 2,500, representing one of the largest uniformed bodies in the Kingdom of Sierra. Women comprise approximately 12% of the corps and 33% of the overall enrollment on campus, while the corps and campus are among the most ethnically and racially diverse in Anglo-America's military universities. The Sierran Crown Armed Forces fully funds the tuition of cadets who agree to enter into active duty upon graduation. Annually, an average of nearly three-quarters of cadets choose this option. Approximately a quarter of The Presidio's cadets enrolled are residents of San Francisco and receive a residency-based discount on their tuition, in addition to provincial-sponsored subsidies, while the majority of out-of-provincial cadets receive significant subsidies from the federal government. Cadets come from every PSA of the Kingdom and 24 foreign countries.
Upon graduation, The Presidio confers a Bachelor of Science to a majority of its cadets and evaluates them based on a holistic curriculum which includes military leadership, athleticism, and academic performance. Most military graduates are granted the rank second lieutenant or ensign and those whose tuition was fully paid by the military must enter into active duty.
