1967 studio album by The Entourage
Their Spirit has Vanished is the second Sierran and third Continental studio album by the Sierran rock band the Entourage, released in February 1967 by Polygon Records in Sierra and by Atlantic Records in the United Commonwealth. Reflecting the band's foray into psychedelia and increased studio experimentation, the album is among their most eclectic works, featuring a diverse array of instrumentation and collaboration from other musicians. The album is also notable for its encapsulation of the diverse musical cultural scene in the city of Porciúncula at the time, with songs such as "Porcy Social Degree" and "Kingdom Station" directly commenting on counterculture and new popular styles. Their Spirit has Vanished is considered one of the quintessential albums of the 1967 Summer of Love, and one of the most important albums in the burgeoning genre of psychedelic rock which The Entourage helped create. The album would be the last album produced by long time collaborator and manager Finlay Gibson, who walked away from the group during the tumultuous recording sessions for the album's follow-up, For the Benefit of Liquid Paradox.
The album would be well received by critics and was a commercial success in Sierra, peaking at number one on the Sunset album chart. Released in the United Commonwealth with a slightly altered track list, the album there also reached number four on the Billboard album chart. It album produced four hit singles: Porcy Social Degree was released in November 1966 and reached number eight on the Sunset 100. It was followed by "Kingdom Station", released in December, which peaked at number two. In 1967 two more singles were released, "Eight Miles High" and "I Can See for Miles", released in January and March respectively, which both reached number one on the Sunset 100, becoming two of the band's most successful singles up to that point. In 2017 both singles, as well as Their Sprit has Vanished, were certified platinum by the RIAA.
