The University of Windhoek (Afrikaans: Universiteit van Windhoek) is a four-year comprehensive public research university with its main campus located in the Central Windhoek District of the Windhoek-Rozenkroon greater metropolitan area in northern South Africa.
It was founded in 1938 as the Windhoek Imperial University (Afrikaans: Windhoek Keiserlike Universiteit, German: Windhoek Kaiserliche Universität) by the occupying Imperial German government. Following the end of the Second World War and the defeat of the Empire of Germany, the school was closed but later rebranded as the University of Windhoek in 1967 and opened to public enrollment in 1969.
The university's main campus is contains seven faculties four of them are undergraduate colleges and three are graduate colleges. Other campuses include a health professional school in Rozenkroon East, mechanical engineering school in the city of Engels, and a small undergraduate faculty in the city of Bloemfontein.
