Vastrian (Vastrian: lénnguia vastríe [lɛnɣja βastʀi]) is a Romance language spoken on the namesake insular region of Vastria, which is located several miles off the coast of France. It is an Occitano-Romance variety closely related to the Gascon supradialect spoken in southwestern France and the Val d'Aran in northeastern Spain respectively. The language's origins correspond with the decline of the Duchy of Aquitaine during the Hundred Year's War, which led to a good portion of the pre-war population to initially emigrate towards northern Spain. However, some settlers soon discovered the mostly uninhabited island of Vastria in 1420 CE.
It serves as the official language of the Republic of Vastria.

Phonology
Sound changes unique to Vastrian
- The phoneme [t͡s] is depalatalized to [s] in most positions besides e and i for the letter ç, the latter pronunciation possibly retained due to an older Basque substratum in the proto-Gascon lects spoken in Guyenne.
- [t͡ʃ], which was already employed in the ll > th change of Gascon and its dialects, is further depalatalized to [t͡s] in final position only in words originally ending in LL.
- Monophthongization of certain diphthongs to either rounded or unrounded forms:
- ue [wɛ] to either e [e] in most places, û [yː] after aspirated h or eû [øː] before ch [ʃ]. A prosthetic semivowel y- can be added if the former occurs at the start of a word.
- au [aw] to au [ɔ], u [y] or even rarely œ [œ]
- ou [ow] to mostly o [o], although ou [u] is sometimes heard in the southeastern dialect.
- ai [aj] sometimes to a/á [aː] depending on placement
- ei [ɛj] rarely lowers to just [ɛ]: rei "king" is one of the few notable words to do so.
- This does not apply to pan-Occitan eu [ew], which is kept as is with only a few instances of it morphing into [iw] during rapid speech :çîeou [t͡sjeu̯ʷ] "heaven"
- Raising of pan-Occitan ei to aï [æj] for the most part; there is the rare case where original ai is, similar to above, lowered towards eï/é [ɛj] but that happens only either in words initially starting with ai or in loanwords.
- The voiced stop [g] is realized as an devoiced [ɣ] in nearly all positions. Although similar traits are observed in Gascon as well, they occur exclusively in-between vowels just like in Spanish; this development might have been the result of Dutch influence over the archipelago in the centuries after the 1652 takeover. The major exception is with words ending in the gua cluster which were lenited to [j] at a later phase.
- metathesis of -sc- to -cs-: bòsc > bocs
- stressed vowel ó [ɔ] is front-rounded to [y] in between constanants; it occasionally morphs into [o] before -cs-.
- palatalization of initial t- before e or i into [tʃ]: tèrra > tcherra [tʃɛra], temp > tchemp [tʃɛ̃m]
- final -tz is realized as [d͡z] instead of [ts]
- Assimilation of final [ʃ] after i into [ʒ]: païjh [pæjʒ] "fish"
