Margareta of Ziębice (ca. 1330-1407) was a Polish-born noblewoman and Queen of Mariana as consort of King Felipe. Margareta was considered to be the real power in the realm and exerted significant influence during her husband, son and grandson's reigns.
Biography
Margareta was born the only daughter and second child of Bolko II of Ziębice and Bonne de Savoie, daughter of Louis II of Savoy. Her father died in 1341 and she and her mother moved to live in Savoy, where she was betrothed in 1345 to Prince Felipe of Mariana. In 1346 the couple were married by proxy, and in March 1347 she began the journey to Mariana, where she would consummate the marriage. In 1355 her husband became king, but it quickly became clear that Margareta held the real power and influence.
Marriage and issue
Margareta was married by proxy to Felipe, then crown prince, in 1346, and the marriage was consummated in June of 1347. Margareta would give birth to x children, and she would outlive all of them:
- Matilda (1348-1399), had issue
- Alfonso (1348-1391), succeeded his father as king and had issue
- Guislena (1350-1354)
- Marta (1351-1369), died during childbirth
- Fernando (1352)
- Margarita (1354-1401), had issue
- Sancho (1355-1387), had issue
- Adelia (1356-1368)
