Mermaids or Sea Nymphs, are a group of fully aquatic marine simian primates, entirely classified within the family Anthropicis and known for their sentience and ability to communicate with humans. There are 108 named (79 extant) species of mermaid, all of which are hermaphroditic and lack significant sexual dimorphism. All extant mermaids are classified under the genera Nereida (Ocean mermaids), Seirena (Sirens), Melusina (Melusines), Naiada (Freshwater mermaids), and Clomoderma (Antarctic mermaids). There are two extinct genera, the Brevicauda (Paddletail mermaids) and Caudapeda (Twintail melusines).
