Vincent Cameron (born February 9, 1966) is a retired Continental judoka. He is the highest-achieving judoka from the United Commonwealth, being an Olympic silver medalist at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. He was the head coach of the Continental judo team for the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. Since 2017, he has been the head trainer for the Maritime Republic judo team.

Early life

He was born in 1966 in Glenville, Congregationalist States. Cameron began practicing judo at the age of 5 at the Sparta Judo Club in Boston, and his trainers included the Continental Olympic medalist Tim Nakamura. As a teenager in the 1980s he traveled to judo training camps in other countries, and also notably trained with Kazuo Shirai in Manitoba and Marcel Van De Weyer in Quebec. He graduated from Aeneas Warren University in Washington City with a degree in physics in 1990.

Judo competition

1987 was Cameron's first successful year in competition, winning a bronze medal at the Pan American Games in Phoenix, his first big success at the senior international level, which was followed by becoming the Pan American Champion later that year in Atlanta. He won a gold medal at the 1991 Pan American Games and defended his Pan American Championship title that year as well. In 1992, Cameron competed at the Seoul Olympics and lost one match, before then winning his fight for the bronze medal against Nazar Khenyab of the Trucial States. In 1993 he won bronze medals at both the World and Pan American championships.
