Visayas, officially the Federal Republic of Visayas (Tagalog: Republikang Federal ng Visayas, Cebuano: Republikang Federal sa Visayas, Spanish: Republica Federal de Visayas), is an island country located in the central part of the Philippine Islands and it is a part of the Southeast Asia. It has a maritime borders with Luzon in the north, Sulu Sea through Palawan in the west, Mindanao in the south, and Pacific Ocean in the east.
The country was first landed by Ferdinand Magellan in 1521 and claimed the islands for Spain and he was killed by Lapu-Lapu's fighters in the Battle of Mactan. Visayas declared independence from Spain in 1897 and Roque López became the first president of the country.
