William James Burns (born July 18, 1970) is an Antillean politician, accountant and businessman who's been serving as mayor of Columbia City since July 8, 2016. Prior to being elected mayor, he had served as a businessman working for the Cleveland Financial Firm from 1997 to 2011 and served as chair of the Hispaniola Federalist Party fro 2011 until 2016. As mayor Columbia City, Bunrs would oversee the growth of the city and the Columbia metropolitan area and passed laws to increase investment in the city resulting in the creation of a prominent and thriving gambling industry in the city making Columbia City the gambling capital of the Antilles and the Caribbean in 2019. Burns was re-elected in 2020 and would be indicted in the Hispaniola Papers in 2021 where his gambling policies lead to Columbia City being a major offshore taxhaven for many wealthy individuals.
Early life and career
Will Burns was born in South Miami in Hispaniola on July 18, 1970. Burns spent the first four years of his life in South Miami before he and his family moved to Columbia City in 1974, where he's lived in ever since. He attended Central Columbia High School before he graduated and later attended the University of Montgomery to study law and politics. He would graduate in 1981 with a bachelor of science and would originally serve as a businessman. Burns largely worked with a local accounting firm until 1997 when he applied and was accepted to the Cleveland Financial Firm by John Cleveland, a prominent Antillean-American businessman and close friend of Burns from his high school days.
