The YLDA enjoys full member status in the American Youth Forum (AYF) and is the official youth wing of the Liberal Democrats of America. The YLDA has its own organizational structure including its own committee, forums, and affiliate bodies and groups which also includes representative bodies within its member parties to maintain connections and a stable relationship between the Young Liberal Democrats and its member parties.

As the youth wing of a pan-American political party, the Young Liberal Democrats organizes multi-national conferences amongst its members where delegates attend these conferences to formulate the party's platform, organizes plans to organizing and involvement in elections, both in the individual member states and to the American Parliament, and advancing youth rights for all young citizens across the Conference of American States.
