Walter Steinmeier (5 October 1480 – 9 January 1539) was a political theorist, statesman, and founding father of the Jungist Räterepublic of Thuringia, serving as its second elected president from 1521 to 1523. As a representative in the Thuringian government, Steinmeier became an influential writer and thinker. His political treatise Societas Cooperativa served as an important work in developing the early structure of the Thuringian government, and later the Rätian Union, with the cooperative style of business being attributed to him.
