America, officially the American Continental Republic and commonly referred to as Continental America is one of four republics of the United Commonwealth of Continental States. Located in the Midwest, Rust Belt, and Appalachian regions of the United Commonwealth, America borders Okaloosa to the south and the Congregationalist States to the northeast. Internationally, the American Continental Republic borders Superior and Tournesol to the west and Quebec to the north. The capital of the republic, and its largest city, is Chicago, which is also the capital of the United Commonwealth and the headquarters of the Continentalist Party.
Before European discovery and settlement, the American Continental Republic was inhabited by a number of Native American tribes, including the Powhatan and the Illi. Portions of the Iroquois Confederacy were also based in America, primarily located in the Pennslyvania region before colonization. Although the lands of that made up the American Continental Republic would be claimed by a number of nations, most notably France under French Louisiana, it would be primarily colonized by the English, who established the first permanent colonies in the east, with the first one being in 1609 with Jamestown, Virginia. America, particularly the eastern portion, would be the hotbed of the American Revolutionary War, and would be the home of many of the founders of the United States.
The states that would eventually make up the American Continental Republic would see a number of battles during the American Civil War and the War of Contingency that followed. Following the latter conflict, Chicago, the republic's eventual political and economic center, would be named the capital of the newly-established United Commonwealth of America. As America industrialized during the latter half of the 19th century, the future continental republic would become a hotbed for revolutionary and socialist activity, with some of the first labor unions and socialist-based political organizations being formed in both urban centers, like Chicago and Pittsburgh, and rural areas, like West Virginia. America would become the home of the Continentalist Party in 1918. Soon this activity would come into conflict with the pro-business and anti-socialist government, leading to the start of insurgencies, particularly in the Appalachia region. This conflict would eventually escalate into the Continental Revolutionary War, with America being centerstage in the conflict. The war would result in the defeat and retreat of the Federalist-led government, and the establishment of a government based in Continental-Landonism in Chicago.
Following the signing of the Union Treaty, the American Continental Republic would be officially established, becoming the first among three continental republics that make up the United Commonwealth. During the remainder of the 20th century, the American Continental Republic would see a massive level of industrialization, partially caused by the Great War. Industrialization, and larger economic and population growth would increase throughout the Cold War.
In the modern era, the American Continental Republic is the largest republic in terms of population, while also being the second largest in terms of economy, constantly switching places with the Congregationalist States. With the national capital centered in Chicago, the Continental Revolution beginning in Appalachia, and a majority of the countries leaders originating in the republic, America is commonly considered the "central republic" of the United Commonwealth, with many national and party policies being centered around issues in America. This title is also given to the republic because of its historical loyalty to the central government, especially when compared to the secessionist attitudes of the Congregationalist States and the civil disobediences and violence of Okaloosa.
Like the other continental republics, America is a federal one-party republic centered around the ideologies of Continentalism and Landonism. The American Continentalist Party dominates all aspects of politics in the republic. Like the other continental republics, America is considered a semi-independent "nation-within-a-nation", though federal Continental law typically supersedes laws made by continental republics.
