The 2022 Channel Islands gubernatorial election took place on March 6 to determine who will be elected Governor of the Channel Islands with the winner being sworn in on March 20. This is the first gubernatorial election in the Channel Islands since its ascension into Federal Sierra as the 24th province in 2021. Incumbent governor Claire Porcher of the Unity Party ran to serve a full term after being appointed on March 6, 2021 by the Channel Islands Legislature. The Democratic Action Party held their own primary on February 12 along with the Unity Party primary.
Since its ascension in 2021, both the Unity and Democratic Action parties have been absorbed into the Royalist and Democratic-Republican parties respectively who have allowed both parties to retain their names and overall autonomy. Minor parties will also be running candidates as well. Porcher won the election winning 62.4% of the vote to Ruben Masson's 34.5%. Despite losing, Masson's performance was an improvement over the previous Democratic Action candidate, TBD, in 2018 back when the Channel Islands was an unincorporated organized territory.
Background
Before its ascension as a province of Sierra, the territorial governor of the Channel Islands was directly elected by constituents. This was a rarity among Sierran territories, where territorial legislatures or the Monarch would appoint a governor. In 2012, Claire Porcher would be elected as the final territorial governor of the Channel Islands, with the territory ascending to provincehood in 2021.
