The 2022 Helena gubernatorial election took place on November 6, 2022, to elect the governor of Helena. Incumbent Liberal Democratic Governor Greg Reynolds announced his intent to run for a fourth term in office on December 6, 2021, and faced off against state representatirve Joseph Hilgers, the nominee for the United Conservative Party. Reynolds was re-elected to a fourth term in office by a wide margin, one that was seen as consistent with most polls and predictions.

The 2022 gubernatorial election in Helena was heavily targeted by the United Conservative Party who saw it as a possible pickup for the party after winning all three of Helena's seats to the House of Delegates on January 3. The Liberal Democrats invested heavily into Reynolds' campaign and the race due to his status as the lone Liberal Democrat and Progressive Bloc governor in the deeply conservative region of Western Superior. Primary elections were held on June 18 and both major candidates announced their running mates the same day.

The general election was held on November 6 and the results were announced the next day with Reynolds projected to be the winner of the race. Reynolds race was seen as a minor upset as Hilgers was only behind him by single digets and several polls had them in a statistic tie, however most did have Reynolds in the lead. Reynolds' victory was attributed to a surprise turnout of young voters, mainly Millennials and Generation Z, his relatively high approval rating amongst the Helenan electorate, and his bipartisan governance, however Hilger did perform better than the previous candidate, Roger LePage, did in 2018.

Background

Greg Reynolds has serves as governor of Helena since 2010 after finishing a nearly decade-long term as a member of parliament. Reynolds would garner attention for being elected in the deeply conservative region of Western Superior and was the only Liberal Democratic governor in the region by 2014, a status he's retained since. Reynolds would be re-elected despite the Liberal Democrats suffering noticable electoral losses in 2018 in the House of Representatives and in some statewide races. During the 2022 Superian federal election on January 3, all three of Helena's electoral districts, two of which were held by Liberal Democrats, were won by the United Conservative Party, making Jon Tester the one Liberal Democrati in the state's parliamentary delegation.
