The 2022 Superian gubernatorial elections were a series of elections for five governorships across Superior, held between March 12 to November 17, 2022. The governors are elected to serve four year terms and all governorships that were up for election were previously elected in the 2018 Superian gubernatorial elections. The 2022 gubernatorial election cycle took place in the states of Helena, Lansing, New Anjou, New Hanover and Wyoming. Alongside the governorships, concurrent elections for all state legislatures up for election and other federal, state, and local offices were also held during the election cycle.
The position of the governor has traditionally been seen as a largely insignificant office that garners limited attention at best compared to members of the Parliament of Superior, however the issue of states' rights emerged as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in Superior and the Courtgate scandal, leading to the office garnering a larger amount of mainstream attention. Having taken place after the federal elections to Parliament which saw the Conservative Coalition of Superior win power for the first time, both the Conservative Coalition and Progressive Bloc committed significant funds and resources into the 2022 gubernatorial election cycle with the Conservative Coalition seeking to expand their holdings on the state level and the Progressive Bloc wanting to hold onto pre-existing ground following their defeat in parliament.
The Progressive Bloc performed better than expected, holding onto all governorships that were up for election and only lost one state legislature, the New Hanover Senate, by a very slim margin. The Conservative Coalition won in New Anjou and Wyoming where they're favored politically and won control of the New Hanover Senate, but it was by a small margin and failed to make any gains on the gubernatorial level, nor flipped any other state legislative chambers. The most closely watched races were in Rochester and Helena where the incumbent Progressive Bloc governors won re-election, with Rochester being a three-way race and saw the Reform Party win over 100,000 votes for the first time since 2016.
Partisan composition
Going into the 2022 election cycle, both the Liberal Democratic Party and the United Conservatives hold six seats respectively of which two will be up for election for the Liberal Democrats, Helena and New Hanover, while only one seat is up for the United Conservative Party, Wyoming. Both the Farmer Labor Party and Constitutional Unionists each hold one governorship; Lansing for the Farmer Labor Party and New Anjou for the Tory Unionists. Both parties have invested a large amount of time and money into their races to hold on to their limited representation in state governorships.
