Anti-imitationism is the position that a mainspaced article on a worldbuilding wiki should not be constrained or limited to the encyclopedic manner of writing used on Wikipedia. It includes the position that a non-encyclopedic article is equally as valid, acceptable, and legitimate as an encyclopedic article. A common form of non-encyclopedic wiki article includes one written in narrative form. This example is a common feature on map games, especially on pages where the map game's turns are written and recorded. Less common examples include articles which are written in the style of an academic essay, history textbook, or gamebook (choose-your-own adventure). Anti-imitationist content is sometimes applicable to non-mainspaced content such as metapages or articles that are not generally under the scope of a given wiki's main focus.

Anti-imitationists are not necessarily opposed to the creation of conventional wiki articles. They are however, supportive of a more inclusive approach towards non-encyclopedic content on wikis and projects which focus on presenting themselves as encyclopedic. In other words, anti-imitationists seek to normalize the practice of creating non-encyclopedic content alongside encyclopedic content.
