Factionalism in Libertan politics

Factionalism in Libertan politics, often referred to as Libertan factionalism refers to the long-standing tendency within Libertan politics for smaller political schisms to assimilate into one of the three major parties, especially Progressus and the Conservative Coalition. On their respective sides of the political spectrum, both socialist and right-wing populist factions exist in Progressus and Conca respectively, instead of splintering into separate parties. Factionalism in Liberta is a historically well-documented phenomenon, with many domestic ideologies having homologized into the two major parties. Research into the origin of this tendency has generally been inconclusive, though several political analysts and historians point to either propensity for big-tent parties with the general public, difficulty for smaller parties to receive any major traction, the cultural influence of Libertan statism and liberal schisms, or a combination of the three.

Traditionally, the two and later three major parties have all supported factionalism for a variety of reasons, ranging from political stability to electoral benefit.
