Active 2050-present

The Federal Expeditionary Legionary Korps (FELK) (sometimes called the Legionary Korps or the Expeditionary Korps) are Z-Tech’s finest troops from all branches of the FRAF which are self-sustaining with an organic logistics capability and with a full vast array of supporting firearms and equipment. The Legionary is similar in appearance and structure of the real-world Expeditionary Forces of earth with some influence of the imperium of man and the Greco-Roman world, being made up primarily of formations of heavy infantry armed with firearms, energy spears, swords, large rectangular energy shields, and utilizing Greco-Roman testudo formations in battles.

History

In different areas of operations where the FRAF is deployed, a Legionary Korps is active to fight in battles of land, air and maritime components together with command and control and supporting logistics.

Structure of FELK

Role

The FELK comprises strategic, operational and tactical level Command and Control elements, together with deployable sea, land, air and logistical components. It is seen as being able to conduct offensive and defensive operations on land, in the air, and at sea. It is designed to be rapidly deployable and, once ready in theatre, to be sustainable for up to three months of operations as a stand-alone force; as well as having the ability to include other nations as coalition partners. The UN and Z-Tech see the following as the most likely tasks for the FELK:

  • crisis management, involving early entry into a potentially hostile territory (including the initial enforcement of no-fly zones, embargoes and sanctions);
  • the protection of shared national interests abroad;
  • extraction operations;
  • non-combatant evacuation operations;
  • the temporary strengthening of a peacekeeping operation;
  • support to emergency humanitarian assistance.

Command & Control

At the strategic level Command and Control (C2) is exercised via a FELK Current Commitments Team (CCT) which takes its direction jointly from the UK's Chief of the Defence Staff and Z-Tech's General Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The FELK CCT provides strategic military direction to the FELK Operational Headquarters (OHQ) which, depending on circumstances, is to be based either in the UK at PJHQ Northwood or in France at Fort Mont-Valérien.

The OHQ carries out operational level planning with the conduct of the operation being commanded by the deployed tactical headquarters the Combined Joint Force Headquarters (CJFHQ). The C2 arrangements are summarised as follows:

  • Strategic level – CJEF Current Commitments Team (CCT)
  • Operational level – CJEF Operational Headquarters (OHQ)
  • Tactical level – deployable Combined Joint Force Headquarters (FELHQ), and as required:
  1. Combined Logistics Support Group (CLSG) headquarters.
  2. Maritime component commander.
  3. Land component commander.
  4. Air component commander.

Deployable Components

The FELK is planned to be able to deploy maritime, land, and air components with the FELHQ commanding these either directly or via individual component commanders.

  • A maritime component of up to a naval task group based on one or more capital ships, with the maritime forces required to conduct a particular FELK operation being primarily depend on the circumstances. The component may include any combination of US, UK and French maritime assets gathered in a task group, and commanded from a UK/French combined headquarters that could be led by either nation.
  • A scalable land component of at least a UK battle-group and a French battle-group. It is to be capable of conducting non-enduring, complex intervention operations, facing multiple threats up to high intensity. It is planned as a high-readiness force using existing national high readiness force elements – including lead elements at very short notice.
  • An air component comprising an expeditionary air wing that is self-sufficient and capable of being generated within 10 days of activation. This will include all air assets across the full spectrum of air power roles. It is envisaged that the air component will be able to deliver the full spectrum of air effects.
  • A logistics component with which the UK and France envisage collaborating to share the logistics support of the FELK. Cooperative logistic planning is foreseen as commencing at the earliest opportunity and logistic operations will typically be commanded by a Combined Logistics Support Group headquarters, subordinate to the CJTF headquarters.

Area of operations

  1. Elite Afrika Korps - capable of fighting in the deserts in desert warfare
  2. Elite Underground Korps - capable of fighting under the ground surface in Subterranean warfare
  3. Elite Sea Korps - capable of fighting in the sea in naval warfare
  4. Elite Underwater Korps - capable of fighting in underwater warfare
  5. Elite Air Korps - capable of fighting in the air space in aerial warfare
  6. Elite Jungle Korps - capable of fighting in jungle areas in jungle warfare
  7. Elite Squid Beak Splatoon - a platoon of Inkling and Octarian/Octoling soldiers capable of fighting in multiple areas using their ink abilities.

Weapons

The FELK are full vast array of supporting firearms and equipment as they have become a self-sustaining force using both their own and captured and refined enemy weapons

Training

their training had to include long-distance marches, hand-to-hand combat with energy shields, swords, energy spears and knifes, horseback riding and learning how to performed defensive formations, such as phalanx formation. In addition to these exercises, they also seem to be trained in sniper fire, both with rifles and snipers.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knife: They were trained to use daggers.
  • Swordmanship: Being members of the military forces of the UFN, they were subjected to sword training, so that all of them could skillfully use swords (crusade or gladius-like swords) as secondary weapons in a fight against any possible adversary or enemy (their primary weapon being the spears).
  • Spearmanship: They were trained in spearmanship, so that they could fight with their enemies in close combat, by stabbing them with their spears or throwing their spears into the enemy lines, thus killing them from distance. They were also trained in the spearmanship art how to use their spears in combat even from defensive positions (defensive formations)  such as the phalanx formations or tortoise formations.
  • Shieldmanship: For their defense and even for their offensive on the battlefield, they were trained in shieldmanship, so that they could use the energy Scutum shield type to defend themselves against bullets, spears or swords, forming defensive formations and they were also trained how to use the energy Scutum shield type even in offensive, using it to push their enemies back.
  • Swimming: It is common that the Federal Navy forces are also trained how to be skilled swimmers, so that they could swim through even the wildest waves or storms.
