The Federal Union of Tristania is a supranational political and economic union controlling the entirety of the habitable moon Tristania, being comprised of all 37 nation-states located primarily on Tristania’s surface. At its peak, it governed 10.11 billion people, including the entirety of Tristania’s population of roughly 10 billion. The Tristanian Federal Union was one of many spacefaring civilizations absorbed into the Unified States of Osuwa during the interstellar expansionist era of Uingffh’s civilizations, but later re-established as an independent nation before becoming a member of the Polyingffhaestian Federation.
The Tristanian Union formed shortly after the end of the Second Tarjeian War, which saw a collection of authoritarian and fascist regimes known as the Alphadophian Imperial Alliance attempt and fail to assert dominance over the rest of Tristania in order to even the technological gap between it and the more advanced Feran Federation of the neighboring moon Ferre. This war was itself a reaction to attempts by particularly militaristic member nations of the Feran Federation to conquer Tristania - a conflict constituting the First Tarjeian War. The people of Tristania formed the Union as a means to gain leverage with the Ferans using peaceful, diplomatic, and egalitarian means as opposed to the violent and discriminatory methods employed by Alphadophia.
Initially, the Federal Union experienced great success at unifying and improving the lives of both Tristanians and Ferans. Within the nation, the Union worked to improve access to healthcare, transportation, education, and other essential needs; abroad, they helped significantly improve relations with Ferre and foster peace and shared progress between the two spacefaring powers. However, the arrival of the Unified States of Osuwa from the nearby world of Uingffh of the Ingffhaestian System complicated the Tristanian Union’s progress. Osuwa noticeably increased personal freedoms for the Tristanians, strengthening protections for freedom of speech and the press while fostering a more diverse and inclusive culture. However, the Unified States’ deregulatory economic policies caused the resurgence of issues like worker exploitation, deterioration of public infrastructure, and other similar effects of corporate overreach. Though Tristania never re-entered war during Osuwa’s occupation of the Tilaga System, Osuwa’s individualistic culture frequently came at odds with Tristania’s unity-driven policies and goals, leading to high political tension.
The Federal Union of Tristania notably boasts a higher percentage of LGBTQ+ individuals compared to other comparable civilizations. (WIP)
