Hunter Barnett (born 24 September 1970) is a Continental politician, educator, and independent deputy of the Continental People's Political Consultative Conference, which she has been a member of since 2018.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware to a working-class family, Barnett studied at the University of Pennsylvania and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in political science with a minor in French, before entering law school and achieving a Juris Doctor in 1997. As a lawyer, Barnett would relocate to Manhattan and serve as a corporate legal consultant throughout the 2000s, before beginning a second career as a teacher in 2010. That year she completed principal training at Hunter College for a certification in school teaching, and accepted a position at Rupert Gardner High School in Brooklyn. From 2013 to 2015 Barnett made brief appearances on the NBC-produced television show The Principals, in which teachers competed to improve the academic performance of schools around the country. In 2015 she was appointed to a New York commission to oversee school reform, which proposed changes to improve graduation rates and student satisfaction. In 2018 Barnett was appointed to the Continental People's Political Consultative Conference as an educational expert unaffiliated with the Continentalist Party of the United Commonwealth.
Barnett has gained media attention as a prominent transgender political office-holder, and has written about her experiences, most notably in her 2020 memoir A Story About Identity. She is noted for her multilingualism, being able to fluently speak English, French, Spanish, German, and Italian. She is married to Continental actor John Gordon and the pair have two adopted daughters, born in 2007 and 2008 respectively.
