Politics of Superior Political parties in Superior Elections in Superior |
The National Republican Party of Superior was a former political party in the Kingdom of Superior. Founded in 1869, the National Republican Party adhered strongly to republicanism, being opposed to the continuation of the Monarchy of Superior and supporting the creation of a United States-styled federal republic. Though originally founded as a catch-all party, having prominent left wing and right wing factions, the National Republicans would transition to a left wing, semi-socialist party as it further went into political irrelevancy.
The National Republican Party was founded on July 4th, 1869 by William R. Marshall. The party would be formed to oppose the continued existence of the Monarchy of Superior and advocated for the establishment of a federal republic based on the former United States. The party's membership would largely consist of Superians who supported the United Commonwealth during the War of Contingency and the Superian Revolution or were opposed to the Anglo-Sierra intervention in Superior, with some being opposed to Superian independence in general. The National Republican Party would as a catch-all party, hoping to attract all forms of membership, particularly both conservatives and liberals. In the 1869 Superian federal election, the party would earn the second largest amount of seats in the House of Delegates, becoming the official opposition party. This position would not last however, with the party becoming the third largest in Parliament during the 1873 federal election.
Following 1873, the National Republicans would continue to lose seats and support, as popularity of the Monarchy began to rise in Superior. Though retaining a extremely small presence in Parliament, the National Republicans would become largely a fringe party, shifting towards left wing politics in an attempt to gain support amongst socialists. However this would largely fail, with the party losing it's last seat in the House of Delegates in 1889. After years of inactivity, the National Republican Party would officially dissolve in 1908, with different factions joining either the Farmer Labor Party or the Socialist Superian Party.
