The Perena were a Nedic tribe of eastern Hammerfell and western Cyrodiil in the First Era. They formed an integral part of the Duraki confederation.

History

The Perena's name may be related to Pe-ben, a poorly-attested aboriginal deity associated with winter and the north, who was in seasonal conflict with the summer goddess Niben (after whom was named the Niben River, according to one hypothesis). The Perena were indeed known to have dwelt to the northwest of Nibenay, in what is now called the Colovian Highlands, but they soon migrated westward to the Helkori Plains to escape Ayleid enslavement.

Later, the Perena joined the Duraki coalition against the invading Redguards, and three of their priests were responsible for locking away Virmaril after his betrayal.

Like the other Duraki tribes, the Perena were scattered by the Yokudan invasions, and are scarcely mentioned in the historical record after the 9th century 1E. Their remnants most likely assimilated with their cousins, the Men-of-Kreath, as well as the Colovians.
