During the 1880’s, calls for equal rights for racial and ethinic minorities began to increase. Although small at first, the Civil Rights Movement gained the support of the Monarchy and the Prime Minister at the time, [[Frederick Stein]]. On April 25th, 1886, the Equal Rights Act was passed in His Majesty’s Parliament, which granted equal rights to racial and ethnic minorities. Although there was some opposition from civil rights opponents, by the start of the 20th century, their opposition died out.
