- Somali Civil War
- Three Somali special forces officers are killed and one Brazorian officer is injured when a car bomb explodes outside of a special forces base in Southern Somalia, in a village located 60 km (40 miles) outside of the port city of Kismayo. The Jihadist militant group al-Shabaab claims responsibility for the attack saying that it "killed CAS personnel".

- 2020 Sudan floods
- A state of emergency is declared in Sudan in response to unprecedented flooding which has killed at least 99 people and has left 100,000 people homeless. The 2020 floods are the worst in Sudan on record since 1988, while the Nile rises to the highest levels in a century.

- Prime Minister Susan Kwon convienes with her Cabinet in order to address the ongoing wildfires and see if assistence from the Conference of American States is possible.
