The Union of Regionalists and Independents is a parliamentary group in the Supreme Soviet, of the Soviet Union. The parliamentary group was originally founded in 1992 with the goal of creating a united opposition to the Soviet Government. Unlike the Inter-regional Deputies Group whose main goal was to remove the CPSU from power, the Union of Regionalists and Independents perused full independence. Since the 1990s the group has moderated its stance. shifting its platform to focusing on regionalism and advocating for greater autonomy from the Soviet Union.
