United Arab Republic (Manifest Destiny Max)
The United Arab Republic (Arabic: الجمهورية العربية المتحدة al-Jumhūriyyah al-'Arabīyah al-Muttaḥidah, UAR) is a country situated in Western Asia and is located in the Middle East, bordering Antioch, Lebanon, Nusayria, Iraq, Turkey, Assyria, Turcomania, Kurdistan, Hejaz, Hawran, Shammar, and Israel. A country of fertile plains, high mountains, and deserts, the UAR is home to diverse ethnic and religious groups, including Syrian Arabs, Kurds, Turkmen, Assyrians, Mandeans, Armenians, Circassians, and Greeks. Religious groups include Sunnis, Christians, Alawites, Druze, Isma'ilis, Mandaeans, Shiites, Salafis, and Yazidis. Arabs are the largest ethnic group, and Sunnis are the largest religious group.
The 1953 Syrian revolution overthrew King Faisal and created a presidential republic, which was followed by a 1967 coup by the Ba'athist Democratic Arab Socialist Union. The new Party authorities renamed the country as the Syrian Arab Republic. Syria aligned with Egypt, Libya, forming the United Arab Republic. Saddam Hussein, an enforcer for the Ba'ath Party, eventually rises to power. Like Stalin to Lenin, Saddam builds upon the work of his predecessors by forging a totalitarian Ba'athist state with him at the head of a cult of personality. He wages war against neighbors, plays the US off the USSR, and rules over the UAR for 40 years before dying of old age in 2022.
The UAR/Syria is a presidential republic under a Ba'athist one-party state and is divided into 21 governorates (provinces).
