The 2020 President of the American Parliament election was an election to determine the next President of the American Parliament for the 2021-2025 American Parliament legislative session. Incumbent president Sofia Muñoz of the Liberal Democrats of America was elected to a second term, defeating challengers from the American Conservative Coalition and Americans for Democracy and Liberty. Primary elections were held on December 19 for all parties contesting the election to nominate their candidates.
The election comes after the conclusion of the 2020 American Parliament election which ended with the United Federalists of America and Liberal Democrats winning the biggest plurality and being able to continue their coalition, but they did suffer notable losses. Their coalition would later be expanded, with the Social Democrats joining the incumbent government following unexpected gains during the election, particularly in the Kingdom of Sierra. Similar to the previous election, the UFA has stated they will cross-endorse the LDA's nominee as will the Alliance of American Unity and the Social Democrats. The American Conservative Coalition would select Ryan Hutchison of Sierra to be their nominee, and despite being an electoral coalition with the ACC, the Americans for Democracy and Liberty selected Johan Whitney of Alaska as their candidate.
Voting took place on December 30, with members of the American Parliament voting during the "voting session", which is when members of the American Parliament are called upon to vote for an incoming president before the start of an actual four year term. Muñoz easily won re-election, winning over TBD votes, mainly from American unionist and left leaning members. Hutchison came in second, wining TBD votes, mainly from Ameroskeptic and right-leaning members. Whitney came in third with TBD, mainly from members of his own political group. Both Hutchison and Whitney received more votes than expected, with some conservative members of the UFA voting for the two in protest of the inclusion of the Social Democrats in the governing coalition. Muñoz was sworn into her second term as President of the American Parliament on January 6th, 2021.
