Caucasus Railway
The Caucasus Railway (Turkish:قفقص دمیریولی, latn. Kafkas Demiryolu) is the longest mountainous railway in the world, connecting the ciy of Erzincan, Anatolia, to Xasi-Ġala in eastern Waynakhia. The railway spans approximately 1,123.8km.
The railway connects the South and North Caucasus, having several stations in Anatolia before crossing into Armenia and Georgia. Passing through the Darial Gorge (Waynakh: Dära-Äle/Terkan-Ç̇aƶ) parallel to the Darial Highway on the Terka River, it crosses northwards into Waynakhia before passing from west to east across the plains, and later crosses into Dagestan before turning south at Anji-Kala along the Caspian Sea coastline. The Caucasus Railway serves primarily as a trade route within the region, with very limited passenger travel.
It indirectly is connected to Balkan Railways, by the Erzincan-Engürü-Konya-Kale-i-Sultani-Istanbul-Edirne-Xanthi-Sofia (Cumhuriyet Demiryolu or Republic Railways).
