The Chancellor of Brazoria, officially the Federal Chancellor of the Kingdom of Brazoria (Spanish: Canciller Federal del Reino de Brazoria) is the official head of the federal government of Brazoria. The chancellor serves as the head of the executive branch of government serving as the head of the cabinet, the commander in chief of the Brazorian Armed Forces and is Brazoria's chief diplomatic representative to the American Secretariat in the Conference of American States. The chancellor is nominated by the Diet of Brazoria, the lower house of Parliament, and is typically nominated by their respective political party where they usually serve as the party leader.
The office of the chancellor has evolved over the course of Brazoria's long history. During the first kingdom, the chancellor served in a role reminiscent of a prime minister and said role has been the case for the modern chancellorship since 1989. The chancellor was the head of government during the Republic of Brazoria, however the presidency held the bulk of executive power in practice. During the Brazorian Confederation, the chancellor was the de-facto legislative leader and oversaw all parliamentary procedures and activities in the country.
The powers of the chancellor are laid out in the Constitution of Brazoria and its role within the federal government and national political system. The chancellor is appointed following their party's victory in a general election, which occurs once every four years. The current chancellor is Ed Gonzales of the People's Party who has held the office since 2019 after succeeding Eva Delaney of the Democratic Socialist Party.
