Conservatism in Brazoria Political parties in Brazoria Elections in Brazoria |
The People's Party of Brazoria (Spanish: Partido Popular) is a conservative political party in the Kingdom of Brazoria. One of the nation's leading conservative parties, the People's Party has emerged as one of the four major political parties of Brazoria.
Founded in 2001 as the People's Conservative Party, the People's Party was founded by socially conservative members of the Federalist Party, who left in protest of then-Chancellor Rex Gutierrez's socially liberal policies and for the party's overall liberal conservative platform. Rebranded as the People's Party in 2003, it would receive minor gains during the 2004 general election, chipping away at conservative support for the Federalists. In 2008, the People's Party would emerge as the third largest party in the Diet. It would expand its share of seats in 2011 and in 2015 would usurp the title of leading opposition party from the Federalists. The party would enter government for the first time following the 2019 general election, with Ed Gonzales becoming the party's first chancellor.
Since 2019, the People's Party has operated a minority government, with the National Conservatives and Libertarian Party serving as the government's confidence and supply. Ideologically, the People's Party identifies as a center right political party, supporting socially conservative, economically liberal, and monarchist policies. Domestically, the People's Party favor the advancement and protection of traditional family and Christian values. Economically, the party opposes state intervention into the economy, supporting the free market. The party also opposes a number of government welfare and healthcare programs, including the National Health Program. In terms of foreign policy, the People's Party adheres to American unionism, a rarity among Brazorian conservative parties, though the party has seen a recent rise in mild forms of Ameroskepticism. The party also supports the nation's continued membership in NATO and other military alliances. In the American Parliament, the People's Party is a member of the American Conservative Coalition.
