The Commandant of the Royal Marines is the head of the Kingdom of Sierra's Royal Marines. The Commandant is responsible for the management of the administration, organization, training, logistical support, and combat readiness of the Royal Marines, advising the Prime Minister of Sierra and the Government of the Kingdom on matters related to the Marines. He is a member of the Joint Chiefs of the Defense Staff and the Royal Naval Service Office, and answers to the civilian Secretary of the Navy and the Minister of Defense. The Commandant is usually a full general and is the equivalent of the Chief of Staff of the Sierran Royal Army, the First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Operations, and the Chief of Staff of the Sierran Royal Air Force.

The first head of the Marines was a Navy captain, who was given the office "Adjutant-General of the Royal Marines," in 1859. It was not until 1868 that the position was renamed Commandant. In 1870 an act of the House of Commons of Sierra declared that the Marines were a separate service along side the Navy, establishing the Commandant as an equal to the commanders of the Army and Navy.
