The Dillon administration is the Cabinet of Superior and is chaired by President Isaac Dillon. The cabinet was formed on January 7 following the victory of the victory of the United Conservative Party in the 2022 Superian federal election with Dillon being made President-elect and the official successor to Jennifer Granholm. Cabinet nominees were announced on January 6 with Anietta Johnson being the first one to take office as she was sworn in with Dillon as his deputy president after the election. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, both were given an informal swearing in and a formal inauguration ceremony will take place in February.
Similar to the Third Granholm Administration that preceded it, the Dillon Administration is a coalition government between the United Conservative Party and its allies in both the Constitution and Unionist Party and the Christian Democrats with all three parites constituting the Conservative Coalition of Superior which was formed in 2018 to oppose the Progressive Bloc formed by Granholm in 2015. In an attempt to strengthen his standing in parliament, Dillon invited the Libertarian Party to join, which they approved, after they re-entered parliament in 2022 winning three seats in the House of Delegates. Together, these parties combined have a grand total of 127 seats in the House of Delegates, five seats away from the 132 seats needed for a majority, and are thus a minority coalition government.
Dillon's cabinet members and nominees are all former members of his shadow cabinet including Charles Griffith, Lydia Bachmann, Donald Hartford, and Andrew Keyes among others, however non-shadow cabinet picks have also been made nominees for Dillon's cabinet. Keyes was the first to be approved by the High Council on January 27 with further hearings planned for February and March.
History
The Dillon administration was announced on January 3 after Dillon was made president-elect with the United Conservative victory in the 2022 federal election where the UCP won 96 seats, a net gain of 11, and won the largest plurality of seats in the House of Delegates. As the leading party of the Conservative Coalition, Dillon stated that all coalition members would join him in his government and would hold positions in his cabinet and announced nominees on January 6 which included many members of his former shadow cabinet. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Superior, a formal inauguration ceremony was postponned to February and Dillon was sworn in as president in a more private event in the Executive Mansion along with Anietta Johnson as deputy president. Confirmation hearings for Dillon's cabinet began on January 24 with Andrew Keyes testifying before the High Council and was approved for the position of Secretary of Foreign Affairs three days later on January 27. Hearings for both Christina Walker and Charles Griffith are schedueled for February 2 and 7 respectively. Donald Hartford would be the last nominee to be confirmed by the High Council, becoming Secretary of the Treasury on March 3.
