The Green Party of Brazoria (Spanish: Partido Verde de Brazoria) is a green party in Brazoria that emphasizes green politics and support for social progressivism. The party was founded in 1999 and is one of the youngest active political parties in Brazoria and was formed a year before the Pecan Revolution, an event that the party participated in.
The Green Party was formed from various green political and environmental organizations that existed before: Ecological Protection Society, the National Green Coalition, and United Farmers of Brazoria, which existed as part of the pre-Pecan opposition against the government of Chancellor Jacob Milton during the later years of the Cold War. These organizations formed on 23 April 1999 in order to form a more unified geen party in Brazoria. For much of its history, the Green Party was a minor party that didn't win any seats in parliament until 2008. From 2011 to 2019, the Green Party was part of a coalition government with the Democratic Socialist Party and Democratic Cooperative during the chancellorship of Eva Delaney, though party in-fighting would emerge over the party's support for Delaney after she began supporting moderate center-left policies.
As of 2022, the Green Party holds only three seats in the Diet and lacks seats in both the Corte and governorships, though has a notable presence in provincial legislatures and seats in local government across Brazoria. In the Conference of American States, the Green Party is affiliated with the Red-Green Alliance of America along with other green parties as well, though it is yet to win seats in the American Parliament.
