The Leader of the Royalist Party is the leader and most senior figure of the Royalist and Federalist Party of the Kingdom of Sierra. The current leader is Kenneth O'Conner of the Inland Empire, who took office in 2020 following his victory in a party leadership election held towards the end of the year. To date, three party leaders have been women; Diana Jeong, Leslie Steele and Nemesis Heartwell, the latter of which previous served as prime minister from 2017 until 2020.

The position of Leader of the Royalist Party was established in 1858 at the time of the party's formation during the infant years of the Kingdom of Sierra. The post was first held by Frederick Bachelor Sr. who also served as the first Prime Minister of Sierra as well. Generally speaking, the role of the leader varies upon which office they hold and what's the status of the party in parliament. If the party is within the Official Opposition, then the party leader typically serves as the Leader of the Opposition and chairs the shadow cabinet for the duration of the party's time in the opposition. If the Royalists are in the incumbent governing party, the leader serves as the prime minister and chairs the cabinet.

History

Selection

The Leader of the Royalist Party is directly elected by registered members of the Royalist Party in a leadership election. The election is held across all PSAs where the party is active in (including members of the People's Party in the Deseret). The winner of the election becomes the party's leader and must win at least a simple majority, 50% at minimum, in order to be declared the winner. If no one wins at least 50% of the popular vote, a run-off election is held in order to determine the winner.

Following a leadership election, the results are certified by members of the Royalist National Committee, the party's governing body, at the Royalist National Convention held following a party leadership election where the winner is sworn in after the results have been certified. The convention typically lasts four days and also includes the crafting of the party's official platform and setting the current legislative and political agenda for the party for the foreseeable future.
