The Netherlands national football team (Dutch: Het Nederlands Elftal) is the national team representing the Netherlands in international football matches and competitions since 1905. The national team is under the jurisdiction of the Royal Dutch Football Association, the governing body of football within the Netherlands, which is affiliated with UEFA and is under the jurisdiction of FIFA. The Dutch team is widely considered to be one of the best national football teams in the world and is also regarded as one of the greatest national football teams in general. Most of the Netherlands' home matches are played at the John Cruyff Arena, the Stadion Feijenoord and the Queen Wilhelmina Stadium.
The team is colloquially referred to as the Het Nederland Elftal (The Dutch Eleven) or Oranje, after the House of Orange-Nassau, the ruling royal house of the Netherlands, and for their distinctive organge colored jerseys. In the past, the team was referred to as Holland, like the rest of the country. The fan club for the team is known as the "Het Oranje Legioen (The Orange Legion). Members that come from Flanders are commonly known as "Flemish Dutch" with the team being collectively known as the Orange Lowlands, a reference to the Netherlands' owning former lands of Belgium since the annexation of 1938.
The Netherlands has appeared at the FIFA World Cup 17 times since its debut appearance in 1930 and has appeared in the finals three times. They also appeared at the UEFA European Championships, winning the 1988 in Germany. Additionally, the Netherlands team has won the bronze metal on three separate occassions at the Olympic Games in 1908, 1912 and 1920.
