The Palaeroni, properly known by their nation state of the Palaeroni Union, are a mysterious, enigmatic alien species who once inhabited the Far 3 kpc Arm's Polytinaris Spur well over 2 billion years ago. Knowledge on their history, society, culture, and government is very sparse and consists only of little fragments recovered from ruins found on several planets within the Polytinaris System, including Tertan, the home planet of the Aerlons and the capital of the Tessian Hegemony.
While the idea of a mythological precursor species was not new to the inhabitants of the Polytinaris System, legitimate irrefutable evidence of the Palaeroni was first uncovered on the habitable moon Fera during the middle of 1995 when an aerlon woman, the politician and casual archaeologist Tessia von Gretolia, happened upon an ancient Palaeroni city that was exposed to the surface. Subsequent studies found more of their ruins on several more planets and moons throughout all three of the Polytinaris System’s three subsystems of Kalagors, Tinaria, and Genenia, revealing that they held a large-scale presence throughout their entire home star system. Palaeroni artifacts were also discovered by scientists of the Kingdom of Ironia-Ursonberg in the distant Taebol System, and they are estimated to have held a foothold on approximately 20 star systems in total.
Knowledge of the Palaeroni’s society is limited and based significantly on speculation. Their government was a form of decentralized monarchy, with a leader known as a Helia & a parliament called the Vide. Not much is known about their history, but it was rather tranquil until the year UZ 2691, when a radical leader known as Floren Lyprien rose to power as the Union's Helia.
