The Kingdom of Ironia-Ursonberg, also known as Ironia-Ursonberg or the Kingdom, is an interplanetary state existing within the Taebol System (known locally as the Ironia-Ursonberg System), which is located within the Polytinaris Spur of the Milky Way Galaxy. It was created on May 2 of 1998, after several hundred thousand members of the rork species, along with numerous gesmians and a few aerlons, escaped from the Polytinaris System after it was overrun by rebels which later formed the Tessian Hegemony.
Ironia-Ursonberg’s existence within the Taebol System got off to a rough start as a result of its isolation from the Polytinaris System, being almost sixty light years distant from their former home. Fortunately, their star system featured multiple inhabitable planets which could support large-scale settlements: this in addition to several unique Palaeroni-designed artifacts allowed the Kingdom to grow into a thriving civilization in the span of only a few decades.
In many ways, the Kingdom of Ironia-Ursonberg was a continuation of the late Polytinaris Commonwealth, being a progressive nation with a democratic federal government. However, Ironia-Ursonberg was unique in its diarchic nature. Both states had their own monarchy, but both had a combined legislative system and a unified military. The monarchs of Ironia and Ursonberg also both possessed a significant degree of power, acting as the dominant authorities of the Combined Court, having duties not unlike a president or prime minister. Ironia-Ursonberg was moderately conservative-leaning in its social policies but generally had fair civil rights, with legislation against speciesism or discrimination being in place. Alas, LGBTQ+ rights within the Kingdom were always quite poor - same-sex marriage, for instance, was not legalized until late in its history. To an extent, Ironia-Ursonberg also practiced xenophobia towards members of the aerlon race, but not much so towards their own. The economy of Ironia-Ursonberg was mixed: capitalism propagated and was the norm, but it was kept under regulations passed by the government.
