Realstrange, officially the realstrange AU and commonly abbreviated as RSAU, is a fictional universe and a joint worldbuilding project. It focuses on Seterra, a planet that is similar in size and density, and features an atmosphere similar to our Earth. It is also quite similar to Earth in biology, culture, and technology. However, Seterra has its own unique geography, and more importantly, history. Realstrange, as it exists today, was started by wisky in January 2023 and was developed and expanded into its current state by the combined efforts of multiple members of the community.
Realstrange functions as a shared universe, with members primarily sharing their works on the Shipbucket forums and Discord servers. Additionally, members also create articles on Conworlds Wiki. These articles cover a wide range of topics including, but not limited to: countries, governments, individuals, languages, religion, culture, and geography. The overarching objective is to achieve an organic, passionate, and community-driven environment where members can contribute to creating an engaging world. As of February 2024, Realstrange has a total of around 60 canonical articles.

Timeline
The history of humanity traces back to a small verdantis ape approximately 10 million years ago, marking the last common ancestor shared by modern humans and chimpanzees. The family tree eventually split into two branches, with one lineage leading to the ancestors of modern humans and the other to the common chimpanzee and bonobo. Very soon after the split, for reasons that are still unclear, apes in one branch developed the ability to walk upright, although the reasons for this shift remain unclear. Brain size increased rapidly, and by 3 million years ago, the first members of the genus Homo emerged. Modern humans, Homo sapiens, are believed to have originated around 1 million years ago in Southern Verdantis, with the oldest known fossils dating back to approximately 900,000 years ago.
Throughout more than 95% of its history, humans lived in small bands as nomadic hunter-gatherers. As language evolved and became more sophisticated, a theory proposed by Stephen Welter suggests that a new replicator emerged: the meme. Ideas could be exchanged quickly and passed down the generations. Cultural evolution quickly outpaced biological evolution, and history proper began. Between 9000 and 10000 BC, humans in the Fertile Crescent in Central Verdantis and Colytheus began the systematic husbandry of plants and animals: agriculture. This spread to neighboring regions, and developed independently elsewhere, until most Humans lived sedentary lives in permanent settlements as farmers. Not all societies abandoned nomadism, especially those in isolated areas of the globe poor in domesticable plant species, such as Etheisia. However, among those civilizations that did adopt agriculture, the relative stability and increased productivity provided by farming allowed the population to expand.
The impact of agriculture was profound, as humans began altering the environment in unprecedented ways. Surpluses in food production enabled the emergence of a priestly or governing class, contributing to a growing division of labor. This led to Seterra's first civilization at Gor in Ancient Remania, between 10000 and 8000 BC. Additional civilizations quickly arose in Central Verdantis, and in Colytheus. The invention of writing enabled complex societies to arise: record-keeping and libraries served as a storehouse of knowledge and increased the cultural transmission of information. Humans no longer had to spend all their time working for survival, enabling the first specialized occupations (e.g. craftsmen, merchants, priests, etc). Curiosity and education drove the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom, and various disciplines, including science (in its primitive form), arose. This in turn led to the emergence of increasingly larger and more complex civilizations, such as the first empires, which at times traded with one another, or fought for territory and resources.
By around 1000 BC, there were advanced civilizations in Verdantis and Colytheus, at times expanding, at times entering into decline. In 751 BC, First Remani Empire became a single polity that would grow to spread its culture throughout Southern Verdantis, and it has remained the most influental nation in the world. The fundamentals of verdantis civilization were largely shaped in Ancient Remania, with the world's first democratic government and major advances in philosophy science, in law, government, and engineering.
In 1216, Alemanne Est reached Etheisia, initiating the great changes to the Northern World. The Verdantic civilization underwent pivotal changes in the 1400s, setting the stage for the scientific and industrial revolutions. Verdantis began to exert political and cultural dominance over human societies around the world, a time known as the Colonial era.
In the 19th century a cultural movement known as the Age of Enlightenment further shaped the mentality of Verdantis and contributed to its secularization. During this age many new states were formed, declaring or fought for their sovereignty in a period of breakups and unifications. From 1909 to 1912 and 1938 to 1948, nations around the world were embroiled in the the Great Troubles and the Great War.
After the end of humankind's bloodiest conflict, the World Peace Organization was created to into the establishment of international institutions to settle disputes peacefully. The aftermath of the Great War left the capitalist Khraelyia and the federalist UFRR as dominant global powers, each wary of the other's political and economic ideology. This tension sparked the Global Freeze, a prolonged standoff and arms race that lasted to this day, with both sides fearing the spread of opposing systems and ideologies. While the threat of nuclear war loomed large, both superpowers engaged in proxy conflicts in Third World countries. The second half of the 20th century also saw groundbreaking scientific and technological developments, and As transportation and communication improved, the economies and political affairs of nations around the world have become increasingly intertwined. This globalization has often produced both conflict and cooperation.
