The Royal Footmen of Superior (German: Königliche Fußsoldaten) is an independent regiment of the Superian Royal Army that is tasked with the protection of the Superian monarch and members of the Superian royal family. Founded in 1867, the Royal Footmen of Superior have guarded and protect the Monarchs of Superior, their family, and the many properties owned and run by the Monarchy. Although they are associated with participating in ceremonial events and celebrations, the Royal Footmen are a fully functioning combat unit, made up of some of the most elite members of the all branches of the Superian Armed Forces.
The Royal Footmen consist of members from all branches of the Superian Armed Forces, though in more recent times members have been selected from either the Superian Royal Army and the Superian Royal Marines, and are usually from apart of the branches' elite and well trained units. The Royal Footmen are known internationally for it's Prussian-style ceremonial uniforms, predominantly its use of the Pickelhaube and Stahlhelm. The Royal Footmen are headquartered at the Heartland Palace and have temporary headquarters set up at each of the properties owned by the Monarch.
Today the Royal Footmen include 1,000 personnel who are organized into two battalions, and are administratively part of the Household Division of the Superian Royal Army, along with the Saint Anthony Regiment. They are the only Army units headquartered in the Saint Anthony District of the Superian Army. During the Cold War and the Great Wars, the Royal Footmen battalions formed part of the 1st Guards Infantry Regiment, 1st Guards Infantry Brigade, part of the Guards Division. In the post-Cold War restructuring of the Superian Army in 2008, the operational Guards Division became the administrative Household Division and the Royal Footmen were reduced in size to just two battalions.
