Tim Thaddeus Mahler, professionally known as TIMeMAchine (also spelled Timemachine, September 1, 1996 − December 13, 2021), was a Superian rapper and producer and a pioneer of emo rap and cloud rap in both the English and German-speaking world, as well as heavily influencing the youth culture of the late 2010s and early 2020s. Mahler died in 2021 after respiratory arrest as a result of a codeine overdose.

Early life

Mahler was born in Green Bay, the capital of the Superian state of New Hanover. Belonging to a family of the German-speaking minority of the country, Mahler would only speak German until he entered elementary school and continued to speak his mother tongue both privately and in public. After entering high school Mahler was often absent, though was an "average, maybe slightly above average" student in regards of grades. During that period he would begin to record his first attempts at music and animated videos. He entered college at age 19 but ultimately dropped out a year later to focus on his music career that gained ever more attention.

Career

Timemachine was introduced to both hip hop and emo in high school, however his greatest influences came from the emerging cloud rap and alternative subculture of Germany, Austria, and Scandinavia. In 2014 the Modus EP was published. The EP quickly gained attention in the German youth counter culture but was virtually unknown in Superior due to being entirely in German. The second album the 2015 Wookie Tape Vol. 1 included features such as Austrian rapper FuturGott and Superian rapper Elexir. Timemachine began to increase his influence of emo and grunge elements while touching on more personal topics such as break ups, drug use or mental health. Wookie Tape Vol 1 gained wide spread attention and brought Mahler to national and international fame within the scene, Sierra and Astoria in particular.

In 2017 his first full length album was released. weirdo was praised for innovative compositions and opened emo-rap to a wider audience with international relevance. The album release was accompanied by a tour under the same name in Anglo-America and Mexico. Between 2017 and 2019 several remastered older songs were published on VidStream, as well as several instrumentals and beatbox routines. His second and last full album, r-rated.mp4 was published on New Year's Eve 2019 and was the only to enter the Superian Top 50 immediately, as well as entering the Sunset 100 on place 40. In 2020, Mahler announced that work on his third album would begin in summer, with acts from Germany, Superior, Sierra and the United Commonwealth. The album was preceded by an EP titled Besinnungslos EP ("Unconscious EP") in April of 2021. This was the last official release by TIMeMAchine. His last tour under the same name was played in Superior, Sierra and Astoria, a tour for Germany, Austria and Switzerland was planned to take place in 2022.

Music

Mahlers music was heavily influenced by grunge and punk rock of the 1980s and 1990s, as well as elements from trap, cloud rap and lo-fi music. Timemachine was often considered a "VidStream rapper", a label that he would not oppose as his focus on the internet gave him "more space to experiment with the things that inspire me". Scream vocals and guitar samples were frequently used and paired with autotune effects. In his lyrics, Mahler described past relationships, drug dependency and mental issues. The lyrics were mostly in German, however some songs were released in an alternative English version or included both English and German lyrics.

Death

Mahler died on December 13, 2021 as a result of a codeine overdose. The autopsy revealed that he has consumed Xanax as well and has mixed the drugs probably unknowingly, as Mahler was known to consume large quantities of lean on a daily basis. Remnants of marijuana and alcohol were found in his blood as well. He was cremated and buried shortly after his death in his home city of Green Bay.
