Tamriel (Aldmer for "Dawn's Beauty"; Draconic: , Taazokaan), also known as the Arena, is a major continent on the planet Nirn. It is bounded by the Eltheric Ocean to the west, the Sea of Ghosts to the north, and the Padomaic Ocean to the east and south.

Provinces

Since the beginning of the Third Empire at least, Tamriel has traditionally been divided into nine regions, known as provinces. They are:

• Black Marsh, aka. Argonia
• Cyrodiil, aka. the Imperial Province
• Elsweyr
• Hammerfell
• High Rock
• Morrowind
• Skyrim
• Summerset Isles, aka. Alinor
• Valenwood

Islands

The following islands are also considered part of Tamriel, but have often changed hands between provinces:

• Cespar (Hammerfell or unaffiliated)
• Herne (Hammerfell or High Rock)
• Olenveld (independent)
• Solstheim (Morrowind or Skyrim)
• Stirk (Cyrodiil, Hammerfell, Valenwood, or independent)
• The Systres (Hammerfell or independent)
• Topal Island (Black Marsh, Cyrodiil or independent)
• Vounoura (independent)
